New $364,000 fire engine for Mortdale

Fire protection and emergency response in Southern Sydney has been enhanced with the hand over of a new $364,000 fire engine to Mortdale Fire Station.
Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) Commissioner Greg Mullins said FRNSW continued to provide its firefighters with modern and safe vehicles for their vital work in protecting NSW families.
“This new fire engine is part of the largest roll-out of new and upgraded fire engines in FRNSW’s history,” said Commissioner Mullins.
The fire engine features a high pressure pump capable of delivering 3,000 litres of water a minute for fire fighting.
It incorporates a foam system for fighting chemical, petrol and bush fires and reducing water use during operation.
“An upgrade such as this ensures that our firefighters have the best equipment and the latest technology available to them for safety and protection of themselves and the people they protect,” said Commissioner Mullins.
FRNSW local Zone Commander Brian Johnson said Mortdale fire and rescue crews did a tremendous job protecting the community.
“Mortdale firefighters responded to more than 600 fire and emergency calls in 2011/12 and took part in more than 133 activities designed to educate the local community about fire safety,” said Superintendent Johnson.
“As well as being one of the newest vehicles in our fleet, this new vehicle ensure they have the best equipment and the latest technology for their work.”
