Million-dollar fire truck to protect Horningsea Park

A new million-dollar specialised firefighting truck, which can rescue people or spray large volumes of water at fires up to three storeys high, was officially handed over to Horningsea Park Fire Station firefighters by Fire & Rescue NSW (FRNSW) Commissioner Greg Mullins today.
“This new fire engine with a 15m hydraulic rescue ladder will provide significant protection for the people of Horningsea Park and throughout Sydney’s south west,” Commissioner Mullins said.
He said the truck’s versatility was a major bonus for firefighters and the community.
“Not only can it be used as a standard fire engine, its extension ladder has the capacity to rescue people, or spray huge volumes of water, from a height of 15m,” he said.
“This extra reach makes it especially effective for fighting industrial or unit fires throughout Sydney’s south west.
“The vehicle is one of three of this type due to come into service at FRNSW fire stations across Sydney in the next few months.”
FRNSW Southwest Sydney Zone Commander, Superintendent Chris Shapter, said Horningsea Park firefighters responded to 589 emergency calls and conducted more than 260 community safety and fire prevention activities in 2010/11.
“This new vehicle will not only be an asset for the immediate Horningsea Park area but will be called in to assist when there are major fires anywhere in Sydney’s south west,” Superintendent Shapter said.
