Goulburn Fire Station gets new $560,000 engine

Fire and emergency protection in the Goulburn community will be enhanced with the Member for Goulburn Pru Goward and Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) Zone Commander Superintendent David Lewis today officially handing over the keys to a new $560,000 fire engine to Goulburn firefighters.
FRNSW Commissioner Greg Mullins said FRNSW continued to provide its fire and rescue officers with modern and safe vehicles for their vital work protecting NSW families.
“This new fire engine continues the FRNSW commitment to increase our firefighting capability in the Southern Tablelands,” he said.
The new Goulburn engine has a pump that supplies up to 4000 litres of water a minute for firefighting operations and a foam system to fight chemical, petrol and bush fires.
The new vehicle is fitted with a GPS navigation unit and an electronic message board on the back to warn motorists of emergency operations. The engine meets stringent emission standards.
“An upgrade such as this ensures that our firefighters have the best equipment and the latest technology to ensure the safety and protection of themselves and the people they protect,” Commissioner Mullins said.
FRNSW Zone Commander David Lewis said some minor alterations were made to the Goulburn Fire Station engine bay in order to accommodate the new truck.
“This new vehicle will ensure our firefighters have the best equipment and the latest technology for their work,” Superintendent Lewis said.
“Goulburn fire and rescue crews are highly trained and skilled firefighters who proudly protect the community they serve.
“They responded to more than 470 fire and emergency calls in 2010/11 and took part in more than 400 community safety activities to educate the local community about fire safety.”
