New $560,000 fire engine for St Andrews

Fire protection and emergency response in the St Andrews community has been
enhanced with the hand over of a new $560,000 fire engine to St Andrews Fire Station fire and rescue officers.
Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) Commissioner Greg Mullins said FRNSW continued to provide its firefighters with modern and safe vehicles for their vital work in protecting NSW families.
“This new fire engine continues the FRNSW commitment to increase our fire-fighting capability in outer south-western Sydney,” he said.
The new St Andrews engine has a pump that supplies up to 4000 litres of water a minute for firefighting operations and a foam system to fight chemical, petrol and bush fires.
The new vehicle is fitted with a GPS navigation unit and an electronic message board on the back to warn motorists of emergency operations. The engine meets stringent emission standards.
“An upgrade such as this ensures that our firefighters have the best equipment and the latest technology to ensure the safety and protection of themselves and the people they protect,” Commissioner Mullins said.
FRNSW local Zone Commander Chris Shapter said St Andrews fire and rescue crews did a tremendous job protecting the community.
“St Andrews firefighters responded to more than 1047 fire and emergency calls in 2010/11 and took part in more than 297 community safety activities to educate the local community about fire safety,” he said.
“This new vehicle will ensure they have the best equipment and the latest technology for their work.”
