14/09/11 - Belmore factory fire

Published: 14th September 2011

At 8.00pm on Wednesday 14 September, fire crews were called to a factory fire in Benaroon Rd at Belmore. Lakemba firefighters were on scene within seven minutes and quickly discovered that what they initially thought was rubbish alight had in fact penetrated through a doorway into a 30x30 metre two level factory complex. They immediately requested assistance from further crews as an aggressive internal attack was commenced.

The factory was a flooring manufacturing plant and was filled with a range of highly combustible flooring products.

With the aid of an aerial appliance and numerous hose lines, they successfully contained the fire to the top and front sections of the complex. No injuries were reported and the site was handed over to Police for investigations. Given the fuel loading, all involved fire crews are to be congratulated on the good results.

No injuries were reported and the fire is being treated as supsicious.
