6/7/11 - More fierce winds across NSW

Published: 6th July 2011

For the second day running, fierce winds created havoc for residents in NSW. Most action was centred in the Blue Mountains, where strike teams from Sydney were sent to back up local crews, and assist the SES who are the combat agency.

At 5.00am crews from Lawson Fire Station responded to Railway Pde Bullaburra, to find a house well alight. The fire was in the front bedroom, and fire crews in breathing apparatus assisted 1 elderly female from the house, who was treated by ambulance crews for smoke inhalation.

Just before 7.00am the crew from Blackheath responded to View St Blackheath to another house well alight. No people were inside the building on Blackheaths arrival, but 1 person was treated on scene for smoke inhalation.

Both fires occurred during a blackout, and initial investigations indicated that candles may have been responsible for both.
