1/7/11 - House fires in Merrylands and Mortdale

2 house fires in Sydney in the early hours of Friday morning highlighted the dangers of the winter fire season.

In Paton St Merrylands crews from Smithfield, Guildford, Merrylands and Wentworthville responded to a fire in a 2 level house. On arrival they found 2 residents had evacuated, and they were transported to hospital with smoke inhalation. Fire crews in breathing apparatus manged to stop the fire spreading to the 2nd level, and extinguished it with 3 hoselines.

In Balmoral Rd Mortdale fire crews responded to a single level house fire. Search and Rescue crews rescued an unconcious 70 year old female from the building, who was transported to hospital in a serious condition. Crews from Hurstville, Arncliffe, Riverwood, Mortdale and Lakemba attended the fire, which was extinguished by 3 hoselines.
