27/6/11 - Fatal house fire in West Ryde

Early this morning fire crews responded to a house fire in West Ryde, where an 85 year old man lost his life.Firefighters were called at 4.55am, and the first truck arrived within 6 minutes to find a severe fire at the rear of the house. 1 male and 2 females were able to self evacuate, and were transported to hospital with smoke inhalation. The man was sleeping at the rear of the house when the fire started, and was unable to be rescued.
Crews responded to the fire from Eastwood, Ryde, Gladesville and Rydalmere.
