25/05/11 - Lucky escape at Blacktown fire

Published: 25th May 2011

At around 7.45pm this evening, twenty firefighters from four stations were called to a domestic garage on fire in Frederick Street at Blacktown.

The garage had been converted to a residence and was well alight when fire crews arrived within seven minutes of notification. There were fears that the fire would spread to adjoining properties and fire crews worked quickly to contain the blaze.

An elderly woman escaped the fire but required treatment for smoke inhalation. She was later conveyed to hospital for further treatment. The garage and contents were severely damaged and investigations are continuing into the cause of the incident.
