Open House at NSW fire stations

Families are urged to visit their local fire station on Saturday 7 May from 10am to 2pm as part of Fire and Rescue NSW's (FRNSW) annual Open Day.FRNSW Commissioner Greg Mullins warned it is vital families understand fire prevention as the winter season approaches.
"Winter is the most dangerous time of year for house fires and Open Day provides an opportunity for families to learn first hand what they can do to prepare for and prevent fires," Commissioner Mullins said.
Open Day gives people a glimpse inside Australia's largest urban fire and rescue service.
"A house fire can take hold in a matter of minutes and be a devastating experience, so prevention is paramount," Commissioner Mullins said.
"Using our easy-to-use online home fire safety audit (www.homefiresafetyaudit.com.au) jointly developed with GIO is an ideal way for households to understand how to prevent and be prepared for a fire."
Supported by major community partner GIO, FRNSW Open Day marks the end of Fire Prevention Week.
GIO Executive Manager Grant Taylor added that Open Day is a great opportunity for the community to visit their local fire station, learn about fire prevention, meet firefighters and enjoy the day.
"With winter approaching, FRNSW Open Day is a great way to raise fire safety awareness in the community. We’re very proud to continue our partnership with FRNSW and celebrate Open Day with them again this year," Mr Taylor said.
Many fire stations will offer a sausage sizzle and show bags for children, while families will be able to see a fire engine up close, take a tour of a fire station and see the equipment used in firefighting, car accident rescues, chemical spills and other major emergencies.
