Published: 13th April 2011

Shortly after midnight firefighters were called to a fire on the top floor of the Wentworth Hotel in Vincent Street, Cessnock.

Crews were on scene within seven minutes and reported that fire had taken hold of a top floor bedroom and that the fire was quickly spreading through the roof void. Firefighters were concerned that the fire would spread to adjoining buildings on either side and additional crews were responded.

A quick search of the premises confirmed that no one was trapped inside and firefighters took about three and half hours to bring the fire under control and extinguish. The top floor and roof of the building were extensively damaged however firefighters prevented any damage to buildings on either side.

Crews from Cessnock, Bellbird, Kearlsey, Mayfield West, East Maitland and Abermain attended the fire which is currently under investigation.
