10/04/11 - Chemical odour in Hardware store

One hundred and fifty people were evacuated from the Bunnings store in Wolseley Street, Jamisontown at around 10.15am this morning. Customers and staff reported a strong chemical smell within the building and alerted fire crews.

Firefighter Hazmat crews arrived quickly on scene and searched the premises wearing breathing equipment. They quickly discovered a leaking battery on a forklift in the rear of the building and ventilated the premises. Staff and customers were allowed to return at around 11.00am. No injuries were reported.
