Published: 8th April 2011

A small factory in Blackmore Rd at Smeaton Grange was evacuated today when an acetylene cylinder caught alight at around 11am this morning. Three fire crews attended and spent several hours cooling the cylinder down as they allowed the escaping gas to burn off. Thermal imaging cameras were deployed to monitor the temperature of the cylinder and Blackmore Rd was closed to traffic during the incident. There was no damage to the surrounding building and fortunately no one was injured during the incident. Fire crews departed the scena at 4pm.
