08/02/11 - Horses rescued and three residential fires

Today, the NSWFB processed 708 reports of incidents across the state. Highlights include:

Fire and Rescue NSW crews responded to a truck jack-knifed on a tight bend on Galston Rd at Hornsby Heights. The vehicle was a large horse float transporting seven horses. Fire and rescue crews utilised their horse handling skills to remove the animals from the vehicle. A large crane was then required to free the vehicle from the tight hairpin corner.

Fire crews today attended four residential fires at Condell Park, Emu Heights and Sussex Street, Sydney. Crews attended the fourth fire which occurred in a kitchen at Darlinghurst. It resulted in one person requiring transport to hospital with smoke inhalation.

Crews were called to the Canterbury Leagues Club this morning when a kitchen fire activated the automatic fire alarms. 120 staff and patrons were evacuated as firefighters quickly extinguished the blaze in a fat fryer. Crews remained on scene to ventilate smoke from the building and declared the building safe at midday.

Fire Hazmat crews attended a long clean up operation of a container at Port Botany and a chemical spillage at Raymond Terrace.

Firefighters attended 23 grass and bush fires across NSW throughout the day including a 15ha fire at Tregear.

Fire Rescue crews attended 44 motor vehicle accidents and twelve car fires across NSW today.

Firefighters attended eight gas leak and four water leak incidents across NSW.
