05/02/11 - Heatwave = 11 residential fires & 14 car fires

Today, the NSWFB processed 1,632 reports of incidents across the state. Today was a day of Total Fire Ban in many areas including Sydney Metropolitan area. Highlights include:Under heatwave conditions, Fire and Rescue NSW processed 114 reports of bush and grass fire outbreaks. Many of these were repeat callers reporting the same fire. FRNSW responded numerous fire crews to dozens of actual fire outbreaks across NSW. Rapid response and heavy deployment of resources contained most of these fires with the exception of large significant bushfires at Morriset and Belmont South. Rural Fire Service crews provided assistance at both these fires.
Fire and Rescue crews responded to eleven residential fires (unrelated to bush fires) across NSW at Whalan, Parramatta, Mt Pritchard, Liverpool, Campsie, South Windsor, Kings Park, Mayfield, Woongarrah, Adamstown Heights and West Wollongong. Four of these fires were attributed to kitchen incidents.
Firefighters were called to the Maritime Museum at Darling Harbour when an air conditioning unit inside a display vessel caught alight. The fire was quickly extinguished.
Firefighters responded to fourteen car fires across NSW today.
Fire Rescue crews attended 36 motor vehicle incidents including a car into a house at Yagoona.
Firefighters also attended seven incidents involving water leaks including large scale water flooding at Ingleburn and Chippendale.
Firefighters attended eight gas leaks today and five incidents involving snakes in houses.
