02/02/11 - Several bush fires and five residential fires

Today, the NSWFB processed 1,087 reports of incidents across the state. Highlights include:

Fire crews today continued to work at Lane Cove National Park extinguishing an outbreak of fire that originally occurred yesterday near Delhi Rd. No properties came under threat today due to extensive and successful backburning operations that were conducted overnight. There were several suspicious fires lit in the area earlier this morning and Police and Fire Investigators are working together to gather evidence from the scene.

Fire crews today also responded to several other outbreaks of grass and bush fires at Katoomba, Gateshead, Lake Macquarie and a small outbreak adjacent to the M5 motorway at Rockdale.

Firefighters responded to five residential fires at Parramatta, Bondi Beach, Orange, Hobartville and Bomaderry.

Crews also responded to a ceiling collapse inside a house at Panania. Fortunately no injuries occurred.

There were three shop fires today at Caringbah, Wollongong and residents escaped from above a shop fire at Strathfield South later this evening.

There were several Hazmat incidents today including a gas leak at Menai.

Firefighters also attended two incidents involving water leaks and ten incidents involving snakes in houses and a preschool.

Fire crews assisted the driver of a cement truck whose vehicle had a mechanical issue at castle Hill and supplied water to the cement mix to avoid permanent damage to the truck.

Today Fire Rescue crews attended 39 motor vehicle incidents including a serious incident at Figtree.
