20/01/11 - Commissioner first on scene at big factory fire

Today, FRNSW processed 714 reports of incidents across the state. Highlights include:

This evening the Commissioner of Fire & Rescue NSW, Greg Mullins AFSM, was driving towards his gym for his evening workout when he observed a factory fire in West Street at Brookvale. He immediately radioed for six fire trucks to respond. Crews arrived rapidly on scene and with the Commissioner taking charge the fire was quickly contained to the top section of the factory. Rapid intervention by fire crews prevented a major conflagration.

Fire crews also responded to three house fires at Picnic Point, Bradbury and Glenwood.

Fire crews responded to a single engine airplane that crashed at Bingara, causing a small bushfire. The pilot escaped with minor injuries.

There were several Hazmat incidents today including an oil spill on a roadway at Belmont North and firefighters also responded to eleven gas leaks across the state today.

Today Fire Rescue crews attended 29 motor vehicle incidents including incidents at Merrylands and Farnborough Heights.
