Fire crews were kept busy throughout the state yesterday attending to 3 major house fires, plus a boat fire and a Hazmat incident when an ice cream truck overturned. A unit fire in Lethbridge Park was fought by crews from Mt Druitt and Busby, who contained it to the bedroom. A house fire in Tatton was fought by 14 firefighters from Turvey Park and Wagga Wagga, who were on scene for 5 hours and extinguished the fire with 3 hoselines. At Murwillumbah, crews from Murwillumbah and Tweed Heads were confronted by a house well alight, and reports of squatters living within. Under difficult conditions, crews were able to search the house before it was fully destroyed, ensuring no-one was inside. Elsewhere, a boat fire at Royal Motor Yacht Club was fought by crews from Mona Vale, Lane Cove and Narrabean, whilst an Ice Cream Truck overturned on the Pacific Hwy near Hexham closed the Highway for 4 hours. A salvage operation was carried out, and 22 tonnes of ice cream was successfully salvaged before the truck was righted.
