04/01/11 - Dogs rescued from cliff face

Published: 4th January 2011

Today, the NSWFB processed 546 reports of incidents across the state. Highlights include:

Today Fire Rescue officers from Avalon and Narrabeen were called to reports of a dog trapped over a cliff face at an Avalon headland. The dog had become trapped after chasing rabbits and was trapped on a precarious ledge. During the rescue operation firefighters were advised that a second dog was also trapped on a ledge further around the headland. Fire Rescue officers took 90 minutes using ropes and harnesses to safely remove both animals without injury. Fire and Rescue NSW considers these rescues to be an excellent training opportunity for rescue officers to hone the skills that are often called upon to rescue human life from similar situations.

Fire Rescue officers also attended a house fire at French's Forest and a rubbish fire inside the Eastern Distributor Tunnel at Woolloomooloo.

Today Fire Rescue officers responded to 31 motor vehicle incidents across NSW.
