06/12/10 - Hazmat incident puts 15 in hospital, 8 residential including 5 kitchen fires.

Today, the NSWFB processed 567 reports of incidents across the state. Highlights include:

Firefighters today responded to eight residential fires including five fires involving kitchens at Lewisham, Woolloomooloo, Hurstville Grove, Adamstown Heights and Woodberry. A unit was extensively damaged at North Bondi and one person was transported to hospital after a serious house fire at Quakers Hill. A bedroom was extensively damaged at Thirroul.

Firefighters extinguished a small bush fire at Kahibah.

Firefighters, including Hazmat crews, spent several hours at a large building in Kent Rd, Mascot after receiving reports of a strong odour throughout the structure. A floor treatment chemical had been used on level five of the building and vapours were spread by air conditioning throughout levels four and three. Four hundred people were evacuated and fifteen people were treated by ambulance crews and conveyed to hospital for further assessment. The building was ventilated and declared safe approximately four hours later.

Fire Hazmat Officers also attended incidents in Sussex St Sydney, Aberdare and Russell Vale.

Today Fire Rescue Officers responded to 36 motor vehicle accidents across NSW.
