19/10/10 - Six residential fires and lengthy kitten rescue

Published: 19th October 2010

Firefighters today attended a number of residential fires at Asquith, Bexley, Malabar, Rockdale and McMasters Beach. A house was totally destroyed by fire at Mt Riverview. Fire Rescue officers also worked for four and a half hours to successfully rescue a two day old kitten that had been accidentally flushed down a toilet at Baulkham Hills. Officers utilised a flexible search camera and cables to gently manoeuvre the kitten a distance of ten metres through a series of pipes to an inspection hatch where it was safely retrieved. The operation provided an excellent training opportunity for rescue officers to practice skills and the use of high tech rescue equipment.
