Two new fire engines delivered to Umina Fire Station

Emergency Services Minister Steve Whan today announced the delivery of two new fire engines with a total value of $960,000 to firefighters at the Umina Fire Station to enhance the local community’s fire and emergency protection."The State Government is continuing to provide our firefighters with modern and safe vehicles for their vital work to protect NSW families," Mr Whan said.
"These new vehicles, which were delivered this month, are part of the largest roll-out of new and upgraded fire engines in the NSW Fire Brigades' history."
"The Government’s record $972 million 2010/11 emergency services budget included $637 million for the NSWFB, providing $18 million to continue updating its fleet with more than 35 new fire engines and specialised vehicles."
One of the new engines is a $560,000 appliance, featuring a water pump that supplies up to 4000 litres of water a minute for firefighting operations and a foam system to fight chemical, petrol and bushfires.
The second new engine is a $400,000 tanker, designed and built for responding to a range of emergencies including building, bush and grass fires, as well as road accidents and chemical spills.
"The new tanker can pump 1900 litres of water a minute from its tank, which carries up to 2700 litres of water, and can also operate from hydrants. It is also equipped with special fire fighting foam."

Member for Gosford, Marie Andrews, described the delivery of the new fire engines as a great investment in the safety of the local community in and around Woy Woy Peninsula.
"I am sure the local community will be reassured to know that our local firefighters are continuing to get the resources they need to help them protect lives, property and the environment in this area," Marie Andrews said.
NSWFB Commissioner Greg Mullins said the new fire engine would further enhance Umina Fire Station’s response capability to fires and other emergencies across the district.
"The 39 firefighters stationed at Umina responded to 610 fire and emergency calls in 2009/10. Fire crews were also actively involved in educating the local community about fire safety, carrying out over 320 community safety activities over that year."
