New $364,000 fire engine delivered to Cooma Fire Station

Member for Monaro and Emergency Services Minister Steve Whan today officially handed over a new $364,000 fire engine to firefighters at Cooma Fire Station to enhance the local community’s fire and emergency protection."This new fire engine is a significant investment in the safety of the Cooma community," Mr Whan said.
"The Keneally Government is continuing to provide our firefighters with modern and safe vehicles for their vital work protecting NSW families."
"This new engine will help ensure our firefighters continue to have the necessary resources to help them protect residents, property, and the environment in and around Cooma," he said.
Steve Whan said the vehicle was part of the largest roll-out of new and upgraded fire engines in the Fire Brigades’ history.
"The Government's record $972 million 2010/11 emergency services budget included $637 million for the NSWFB, providing $18 million to continue updating its fleet with more than 35 new fire engines and specialised vehicles," he said.
The vehicle features a high pressure pump capable of delivering 3,000 litres of water a minute for fire fighting and a foam system for fighting chemical, petrol and bush fires and reducing water use. It also meets strict emissions standards.
NSWFB Commissioner Greg Mullins said the new fire engine would further enhance Cooma firefighters' ability to respond to fires and other emergencies.
"The 17 firefighters stationed at Cooma responded to 154 fire and emergency calls in 2009/10 and were also actively involved in educating people about fire safety, carrying out more than 150 community safety activities over the year," he said.
"Fleet upgrades such as this ensure that our firefighters have the best equipment and the latest technology to ensure the safety and protection of local communities."
