Factory Fire at Smithfield

Fire rescue officers from Smithfield, Fairfield and Merrylands responded to a factory alight in Britton St early on Saturday evening. The first arriving crews were confronted with a very large fire in the factory and several surrounding factories were also under threat from the fire. They immediately called for assistance and seventy five fire rescue officers from fifteen surrounding stations responded. The officers worked tirelessly under very difficult conditions to bring the fire under control and were successful in preventing its spread to the surrounding factories. Crews remained on scene until late the next day to completely extinguish the fire.
