9th floor unit fire in Camperdown

Published: 30th June 2010

At 9.15am NSWFB crews were called to a unit fire in Pyrmont Bridge Rd Camperdown. Newtown arrived first and were confronted by flames issuing from the window of the 9th floor unit. Glebe arrived straight afterwards along with its Ladder Platform. Crews rushed to the fire floor using the stairways, and commenced fighting the fire with 1 hose line from the internal hydrant system. A thorough search and rescue took place of the unit and surrounding units. The Ladder Platform Truck from Glebe was extended in case firefighting from outside the building was required. Other crews in attendance were Redfern, Leichhardt, Pyrmont and City of Sydney. The Incident Controller was Duty Commander City. The fire was contained to the unit of origin. 10 persons were evacuated, and 3 persons were transported by ambulance crews to hospital. Elsewhere NSWFB crews fought house fires in Carramar, Mt Annan, Wauchope, Namingha, Wingecarribee, Bathurst and Dubbo, emphasising the need to stay vigilant during winter with our fire safety campaign.
