Waste oil tanker incident at Orange

Published: 29th June 2010

At 4.30 pm fire crews from Orange were called to a tanker that had rolled on March Rd, 2 kms out of town. The tanker, which was carrying 28000 litres of waste oil was leaking its contents through a large gash at the bottom of the tanker. Assistance was called from the RFS and Bathurst Hazmat. Crews, initially using hand tools, were able to stop much of the oil entering drains. Council organised heavy earth moving equipment to try and dam the leaking oil. Waste recovery trucks on site were able to recover pooled oil. Fire crews laid booms in the creek to contain any oil that may have entered the drains. After gas readings were taken, the truck was righted. There were no injuries.
