Published: 13th May 2010

Firefighters were today called to assist with the rescue of a horse which had slipped into a dam at Clifton Rd in Riverstone. The dam had steep sides and the horse was unable to escape on its own. RSPCA officials attended the scene and quickly called for the NSW Fire Brigades to assist. A Fire Rescue crew from Bonnyrigg together with firefighters from Blacktown attended the scene. They called for further assistance from the fire crew at Huntingwood whose fire appliance is fitted with an extending aerial boom. A harness was placed around the horse and the aerial boom was utilised to lift the horse from the dam and lower it onto firm ground where it safely recovered. The rescue took about two hours to complete.
