Beresford - 50 people evacuated due to LP Gas leak

Fifty people had to be evacuated and an exclusion zone established around a service station on Anderson Drive at Beresfield today. A taxi vehicle was being refilled at around 3.45pm with LP Gas when a leak developed in its two LP Gas tanks. When the leak could not be shut off, firefighters from Tarro, Maitland and East Maitland attended the scene and evacuated everyone within a 100 metre radius. Fire crews applied water sprays over the tanks to remove any source of ignition. Firefighters wearing Breathing Equipment were able to isolate the valves at around 5.30pm and the area was finally declared safe. Investigations are being conducted into the cause of the leak.
