Fire Prevention Week: Sunday 2 May - Saturday 8 May

Published: 30th April 2010

Fire Prevention Week kicks off on Sunday 2 May with Brigades Kids Day (11.30am – 1.30pm) and firefighters look forward to seeing families at their local McDonald’s restaurant.

Firefighters will be handing out the latest version of the Brigade Kids CD-Rom - a fun, educational resource filled with interactive games, videos and songs rich in fire prevention know-how, and designed to get kids and grown-ups playing together to learn about fire safety.

McDonald’s will also collect donations from the community which will be used to support the Burns Unit at Westmead Children’s Hospital.

On the same day, the Sunday Telegraph, in partnership with the NSWFB and our major community partners, GIO and McDonalds, will publish a special Fire Prevention Week newspaper supplement packed with home fire safety advice for families. Be sure to pick up your copy.

Throughout Fire Prevention Week, firefighters will be holding information events across NSW specifically targeted at providing seniors and culturally and linguistically diverse communities with face-to-face fire prevention advice.

Fire Prevention Week culminates in the annual NSWFB Open Day on Saturday 8 May (10.00am – 2.00pm) when fire stations across NSW will open their doors to the public and showcase the important work of firefighters.

Families are encouraged to visit their local fire station, meet firefighters and learn more about fire prevention.  Children will be able to see fire engines and firefighting equipment up close.
