Rockdale - Factory fire

Thirty Fire Rescue Officers from five Sydney fire stations were called to a factory fire at 7.34pm on Friday 12 February 2010 in West Botany Street, Rockdale. The crew from Kogarah arrived within ten minutes of the call and reported that a large amount of smoke was issuing from the 20m x 20m building which contained a mechanics workshop. Fire Rescue Officers from Kogarah, Arncliffe, Botany, Hurstville and Mortdale attended the scene and were able to bring the fire under control within one hour. An acetylene cylinder was discovered within the premises, however fire crews were able to determine that the cylinder had not been exposed to any direct flame. Clean up operations were completed at 9.34pm and crews departed the scene. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
