Large car wrecking yard fire - Revesby

A timber yard came under direct threat when a fire started in an adjoining car wrecking yard in Violet Street, Revesby on Tuesday 9 February 2010. The NSW Fire Brigades received the first of many Triple Zero calls at 12.45pm and due to the number of calls immediately responded four fire rescue crews to the incident. A thick black smoke plume was visible as far away as the northern suburbs of Sydney. Revesby fire rescue crew were quickly on scene within five minutes and reported that a section of the wrecking yard was alight and that numerous surrounding properties, including a timber yard were under threat. A total of fifty fire rescue officers from ten surrounding stations were called in to attack the blaze. Crews quickly set up water sprays to protect the exposures whilst a direct attack was commenced. The firefighting strategies deployed were highly successful in bringing the incident under control within one hour and containing the fire to just one third of the large complex with no damage to other exposures. Crews from Revesby, Riverwood, Liverpool, Kogarah, Cabramatta, Chester Hill, Lakemba, Campsie, Mortdale, Menai, Fairfield, Horningsea Park, Hurstville and Alexandria attended the incident.
