Australia Day Honours for Chief Superintendent

NSW Fire Brigades (NSWFB) Commissioner Greg Mullins today congratulated Lilli Pilli resident, Chief Superintendent Marcus Baker, on being named in this year's Australia Day Honours.Chief Superintendent Baker was one of three NSWFB officers awarded the Australian Fire Service Medal, one of the highest honours an Australian firefighter can receive.
Commissioner Mullins said that Chief Superintendent Baker had been an asset to the NSWFB since joining twenty years ago.
"Chief Superintendent Baker is an experienced and committed officer who has given the NSWFB and the community two decades of outstanding service.
"He began his career as a firefighter at City of Sydney, Miranda, Cronulla and Botany Fire Stations, before becoming Station Officer at The Rocks, Hurstville, Alexandria and Kogarah Fire Stations.
"He worked his way up through the ranks, culminating in his current position as the Area Commander for Metropolitan East, responsible for the north, east and mid-Western suburbs of Sydney."
"Chief Superintendent Baker is an exemplary leader who has developed a professional team of officers, and contributed significantly to the level of fire and emergency protection provided to the community in the most densely populated area of Sydney.
"He has also played a key role in the areas of firefighter rehabilitation, mental health initiatives and flexible working arrangements. In his personal time and as a member of the Board of the Museum of Fire he has been passionate about preserving Fire Brigade history and promoting physical fitness amongst firefighters.
"His commitment to the welfare of firefighters and his integrity as a fire officer is recognised by both his peers and colleagues in other emergency services and I am delighted that he is being honoured in this way," he said.
