Firefighter honoured with Australian Fire Service Medal

NSW Fire Brigades (NSWFB) Commissioner Greg Mullins today congratulated Helensburgh resident, Chief Superintendent Steven Pearce on being named in this year's Australia Day Honours.Chief Superintendent Pearce was one of three NSWFB recipients of the Australian Fire Service Medal.
NSWFB Commissioner Greg Mullins said Chief Superintendent Pearce was a highly respected fire officer with a true passion for his work.
"As a career firefighter, Chief Superintendent Pearce has served the Brigade and the NSW community with distinction for the past 24 years," he said.
"After working as a frontline firefighter and officer throughout Sydney, he was appointed to the rank of Superintendent at Tamworth where he focussed strongly on community safety and education throughout the New England region.
"Now as the Assistant Director for community safety for the NSWFB, Chief Superintendent Pearce coordinates education programs designed to raise awareness of fire safety in the home and the community and to save lives.
"In recent years the success of our community education programs has made a real difference to public safety, especially among high fire risk groups such as the elderly, children and culturally and linguistically diverse groups across NSW. This is largely due to the commitment and enthusiasm of Chief Superintendent Pearce."
Commissioner Mullins said the Australia Day honours gave the community the opportunity to thank the recipients - along with all the members of our emergency services - for their work and commitment to serving our community.
"None of our emergency services personnel, whether volunteers or paid officers, perform these roles for public recognition but the contribution they make to protecting our community deserves our thanks."
