Salvation Army Building destroyed - Yagoona

At 01.08am on Sunday 10 January 2010, crews were called to a rubbish fire at the rear of a Salvation Army building on the Hume Highway at Yagoona. Despite Fire Rescue Officers from Bankstown arriving within six minutes of the first of many Triple Zero calls they reported that the fire had already spread to the building structure itself. A total of thirty Fire Rescue Officers worked for over two hours to bring the fire under control. An aerial ladder truck from Revesby was also used in an attempt to contain the fire. Unfortunately all the contents were destroyed and the building sustained substantial damage as a result of the blaze. The fire is believed to have been deliberately lit in rubbish dumped at the rear of the building overnight. Crews from Bankstown, Chester Hill, Revesby, Lidcombe, Parramatta and Riverwood attended the fire. Further investigations by Police are continuing.
