Gas leak at Hillsborough

Published: 17th November 2009

Firefighters from Cardiff, Carrington and Newcastle responded to a reported gas leak at Hillsborough Rd, Hillsborough, this morning. When they arrived, the firefighters found that a gas main had been ruptured and gas was pouring out of the main into the surrounding area. The firefighters immediately got a hose to work and created a high pressure mist to disperse the vapours and provide fire protection should the gas catch alight. Thirty three people were evacuated from a nearby McDonalds, and Police and RTA closed Hillsborough Rd for a couple of hours until the gas company was able to isolate the gas from the ruptured pipe.
