Fire at golf clubhouse at Blacktown

Firefighters from Blacktown and Seven Hills responded to a building fire at Springfield Ave, Blacktown early this morning. While still enroute, the station commander from Blacktown saw so much smoke billowing from the area that he called for more assistance before they arrived at the scene. When the firefighters arrived, they found a very severe fire at the clubhouse of Ashlar Golf Club. A total of twelve fire engines were called in to fight the fire. It was necessary to close nearby Richmond Rd so that the water mains on this road could be accessed to pump water to the fire. It took several hours to extinguish the fire and it is anticipated crews will remain on scene all day to completely mop up the hot spots and assist the investigators.
