Rescues at Wollongong

Rescue firefighters at Wollongong have been busy over the last couple of days. Early yesterday morning they responded with firefighters from Dapto to a car accident on the Southern Freeway at Berkeley. On arrival, the firefighters found that an ambulance had been involved in an accident and the rear door was unable to be opened due to the damage. The rescue firefighters were able to utilise their equipment to open the door while the Dapto firefighters provided fire protection. This morning the rescue firefighters responded to two incidents. They responded to a car accident on the F6 at Mt Ousley at the request of the ambulance service to stabilise an airbag which had not deployed. Shortly after, they responded with a crew from Balgownie, the Duty Commander Illawarra, Inspector Jay Bland and local RFS crews to Picton Rd, Cataract. On arrival, they discovered an accident involving two cars and people trapped in both cars. They utilised their equipment to release the trapped people who were then taken to hospital. The local RFS crews provided fire protection. In a separate incident this afternoon, firefighters from Wollongong and the Duty Commander along with local RFS crews, responded to a car accident at Picton Rd, Cataract. These incidents are great examples of the high levels of co-operation between all of the emergency agencies involved (i.e. NSWFB, ambulance, police and RFS).
