Bushfire at Raymond Terrace

Published: 3rd November 2009

Firefighters from Raymond Terrace responded to bush alight at Martens Ave, Raymond Terrace, this afternoon. Upon arrival, they discovered a large area of bush alight that was burning in a south-east direction due to the influence of a very hot north-west wind. They called for assistance and firefighters from Tarro responded as well as local RFS firefighting crews. The prevailing conditions led to the fire growing very quickly and it started to threaten properties in Rosemount Ave. More assistance was requested and more NSWFB crews from the Newcastle and Maitland area, local RFS crews, some fixed wing aircraft and helicopters all responded to the scene and successfully prevented the fire from impacting on houses. Firefighters from both services will remain on scene for at least the next 24 hours to establish containment lines and bring the fire under control.
