Bushfire at Middle Cove

Published: 13th October 2009

Firefighters from Crows Nest and Lane Cove responded to a bushfire at Rembrandt Drive, Middle Cove this afternoon. Upon arrival, they located a fire deep in the bush in the Harold Reid Reserve, which fronts the harbour foreshore at Castle Cove and Crag Cove. The Duty Commander from Crows Nest responded to the scene and called for assistance due to the inaccessibility of the fire. He requested a helicopter for water bombing, more crews from the NSWFB and RFS and Marine 1, the NSWFB fire boat. The helicopter was able to successfully control the fire, which was then mopped up by ground crews who were taken to the scene by Marine 1 and a police launch. Firefighters will be remaining on scene all night to ensure the fire does not flare up again and will be working tomorrow to strengthen containment lines and complete extinguishment.
