Rubbish Fire Under Block of Units at Kensington

Published: 4th October 2009

Firefighters from Randwick and Maroubra received a call to a report of a car fire under a unit block at Anzac Parade, Kensington, this evening. The first arriving crews found smoke issuing from the carpark of a seven level building which was mostly used as student accommodation. Firefighters quickly attacked the fire and discovered it was actually a fire in a wheelie bin. The spread of the fire was minimised by the operation of the sprinkler system and was quickly extinguished. The smoke had penetrated the lower levels of the building and 80 persons were evacuated.
