Chlorine Spill West Pennant Hills

Published: 24th September 2009

This morning firefighters from Beecroft, Eastwood and a hazardous materials unit from Greenacre responded to a truck roll over at the corner of Castle Hill Rd and Pennant Hills Rd, West Pennant Hills. On arrival the firefighters have identified a truck carrying approximately 16 000 litres of liquid pool chlorine had rolled onto its side. The driver was out of the vehicle and being treated by ambulance officers. An amount of chlorine had spilt from the tanker. Firefighters contained the spill before it could do any environmental damage. Atmospheric monitoring equipment was used by firefighters to ensure that chlorine levels in the air were at a safe level. The remaining contents were then pumped into another tanker before the truck was righted with the use of a heavy recovery vehicle.
