Silo fire Oberon

Just before midday, firefighters from Oberon and Kelso were responded to smoke coming from a silo at Albion St, Oberon. On arrival the firefighters have liaised with site management and identified a small amount of smoke coming from a 100 cubic metre wood flake silo. Duty Commander and Zone Commander Central West and firefighters from Bathurst were called in to assist. Surrounding buildings were evacuated and an Incident Action Plan was formulated in conjunction with site management. This included the removal of the contents of the silo. Once removed the contents was wet down with hoselines to ensure extinguishment. As this was a very protracted incident, relief crews were brought in from Orange and Portland. The fire was finally concluded some twenty eight hours after the start of the incident.
