Bushfire Maryland

Published: 6th September 2009

Early this afternoon firefighters from Wallsend and Mayfield West were responded to numerous Triple Zero calls to a bushfire in the vicinity of Hardes Ave, Maryland. Due to the size of the fire, firefighters on arrival immediately upgraded the response. Firefighters from Tarro, Lambton, Cardiff and Minmi responded to assist. A large section of the fire was inaccessible to firefighters and fire trucks, so the decision was made by the incident controller to set up for property protection and wait for the fire to come out to where it could be extinguished. Later in the afternoon the firefighters received assistance from a NPWS helicopter, which carried out water bombing.
