New $578,000 fire engine for Dee Why

NSW Fire Brigades Commissioner Greg Mullins today presented the keys for a new $578,000 fire engine to firefighters at Dee Why Fire Station.Commissioner Mullins said the new engine was part of the largest roll-out of new and upgraded fire engines in NSW Fire Brigades (NSWFB) history.
“Our firefighters play a vital role in the community. In the 2008/09 financial year firefighters from Dee Why fire station responded to 1,686 emergency calls and carried out more than 100 community safety activities.
The new fire engine has been specifically designed for fire fighting in urban areas and also carries state-of-the-art rescue equipment. The new vehicle can pump up to 4,000 litres of water per minute for fire fighting operations and has a foam system to fight chemical, petrol and bush fires.
It has the latest technology with an electronic message board on the back to warn motorists of emergency operations as well as a GPS unit. The vehicle complies with the latest Euro four emission standards.
Commissioner Mullins, himself a northern beaches resident, said the new specialist vehicle will further enhance the response capability of Dee Why Fire Station.
“Fleet upgrades ensure that our front-line firefighters have the best equipment and the latest technology to ensure the safety and protection of local communities and to help reduce the risk of fire and emergency calls."
