House fire Matraville

In the early hours of this morning firefighters from Matraville and Maroubra responded to a fire in a house in Menin Rd, Matraville. On arrival the firefighters found the rear of a two storey house well alight. Firefighters from Botany, Mascot, Randwick, Woollahra and Kogarah were called in to assist. The house was divided up into ten separate living units. The fire had started in one of them and spread to the roof area and was threatening other units. Firefighters rescued two people from their balcony using ladders. Seven other people from the house had self evacuated before the arrival of the NSWFB. Quick work by firefighters restricted the spread of the fire. Fire investigators are on scene to investigate the cause.
