Unit fire in Newtown

his evening firefighters from Newtown and Glebe including the ladder truck from Glebe responded to a fire in a unit in Susan St, Newtown. Crews arrived within six minutes to find a unit well alight on the top floor of a two level building well alight. Police on scene were able to get the occupant out who was suffering smoke inhalation and burns, she was treated on scene and transported to hospital for further observation. Several police officers were also treated for smoke inhalation. The fire was quickly brought under control and extinguished within thirty minutes. The cause of the fire is still being investigated.
